2002-09

I never believed in Friday 13:th to be any different than other days, but I think I will have to change my mind about that...

Last tuesday I had to call Anja (my Poodles breeder), because Nikki showed strange symptoms. She said that Nikki probably had a tumour or an infection in uterus. We have planned to spay/neuter her for a long time, but we've tried to wait out the warm weather this autumn to avoid infections, but now it got acute. She was scheduled for surgery on Friday the 13:th (I didn't notice that then).

So I took her, Tintin, Kim and my parents Foxterrier Dixie (I have him during their holiday in Greece) to Karlskrona (a trip of 300 km) last thursday. Friday morning, Anjas cat got scared of the dogs and jumped up at her and scratched/bit her on the arms, the stomach and in her head! After cleaning the wounds and taking some painkillers, we left for the animal clinic where she is working. When I opened the back of the car to let the dogs out, Kim accidently pushed out a cheramic bowl with water so it crashed in a thousand pieces on the ground. Still wasn't aware that it was Friday 13:th...

Safe and sound in the vet's office, one of the staff cut herself with a knife, and yelled in anger "I knew it, it's friday the 13:th today!!!" Oooops, I added the mishaps during the morning and got all pale - Nikki was to get into surgery on Friday 13:th! It didn't feel good, I can tell you that ;-( Anja calmed me down by saying that now it was over, everyone had had small incidents and nothing more would happen. Ooh, how wrong she was. Nikki was doing perfectly alright, and Kim too during his X-ray of HD and AD. But the rest of us...

Bella is the kindest horse on earth, she is wandering around as she likes in the
garden and the forest. Her mate on the other hand kicked Tintin in the head!

When Kim was done at the veterinary clinic, I drove home to Anja, since Nikki would stay all day in the clinic. I let all the dogs out (including her 3 Poodles). She is living in the middle of the wood, almost like I do, but with no neighbours and no road passing by or even in the vicinity. Right outside the window her two horses are and the barn is filled with cats. Very cozy, until Tintin decided that the horses fenced yard was his area and the little Shetland pony disagreed with him. When Tintin jumped up at his nose to tell him to stay away, the horse hit him in the head with the hoof! Tintin yelled and ran BEHIND the horse, who kicked again, but this time Tintin was out of reach. I searched all over Tintins body, but I couldn't find that he was hurt anywhere, guess he yelled out of chock. He was lucky there, he could have gotten killed!

When I had calmed down, it was time to make some dinner. But when I got into the kitchen, I heard a strange noise. I stopped and listened. The entire kitchen was filled with wasps!!! And later that evening we found their nest above the stove... It was horrible to be there and try to cook dinner... Luckily none of us got stung by them and Nikki is feeling fine, so does the rest of the dogs.

Hunting wasps with the vacuum cleaner...

When we went for the last walk that day, Dixie disappeared into the darkness for a long time. We called and searched for him, but no Dixie. He eventually came back, limping and with the tongue out. He had been hunting deers, you know, but since he is 13 years old, he is not quite in shape for those kind of adventures, he is still limping today...

But it all ended happily despite all... It could have been worse.

Dixie, "still going strong",
despite his 13 years (that everyone thinks is
13 months when they ask how old he is ;-))

Hope your Friday 13:th wasn't half as awful as mine!
Hugs from Karin & Kim
